About

Who we are

United for Mercy (UFM) is a locally registered Community Based Organization (CBO) (Registration No: 1191/RGB/NGO/OC/02/2023) dedicated to serving the community. Our office is based in Musanze District, Northern Province of Rwanda. We work to cultivate lasting solutions by promoting education and skills development for vulnerable children and youth, while improving the socio-economic well-being of marginalized families in our community. Through collaborative efforts, we support disadvantaged families targeting their children and marginalized youth, including those without adequate shelter, without access to health services, poor widows, orphans, neglected children especially children with disabilities and other vulnerable communities in general. At UFM, we strive to create a more inclusive society by addressing the multiple needs of our community members through targeted support initiatives that empower individuals and families to build a better future.

We invite everyone to join us as we work towards a more compassionate and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our History

Officially launched in 2019, the idea of United for Mercy was conceived over 30 years ago. With the main objective of uniting people only through mercy and love as a repaying grace from the Almighty God, it was created to change/improve the living conditions of vulnerable families, especially children and young adults with their parents from poor families in rural areas.

The idea of the organization came from the later family of Charles AYIGIHUGU (founding family). This family was supported by Caritas Rwanda in 1991 after a fire destroyed their house and all their belongings in and around it. With such a miserable life, Charles’ family was supported by neighbors, but mainly by Caritas Rwanda.

From that moment on, the whole family acknowledged the support and dedicated themselves to helping other families in need. It was an act of spreading God’s mercy and love as people who once received the foundation of life from supporters. Inspired and led by Father Theoneste MUNYANKINDI (the originator of the idea), the family’s charity activities such as paying children’s school fees, feeding hungry families, etc. continued in this vein until 2019 when it was decided to undertake charity activities on a larger scale as an organization. From 2020, United for Mercy will be registered as a non-governmental, community-based organization working in Rwanda.
